1 1/2 cups hot water
1 cup uncooked oatmeal
1/2 cup (1 stick) butter
1 1/2 cups granulated sugar
2 eggs
1/2 cup cocoa
1 1/2 cups flour
1 1/2 teaspoons baking soda
1/2 teaspoon salt

Preheat oven to 350 degrees F.

Mix hot water and oatmeal and allow to stand for 20 minutes.

Cream butter, sugar and eggs. Add oatmeal and beat well. Add flour, cocoa, baking soda and salt and beat well. Bake in a 13 x 9-inch sheet pan for 35 minutes. Test for doneness and spread with Topping.

Topping
6 tablespoons butter, melted
1 teaspoon vanilla extract
2/3 cup brown sugar
1 cup flaked coconut
1/4 cup cream
1/2 cup walnuts, chopped

Mix in order listed and spread on hot cake and return to oven for 5 minutes. Cool.
