1 pound ground round steak
1/4 cup chopped onion
1 egg
2 teaspoons salt
1/4 cup fine bread crumbs
1 tablespoon Worcestershire sauce
1/8 teaspoon pepper
2 cups tomato sauce
2 tablespoons vegetable oil
4 carrots, diced
1 cup celery, diced
2 potatoes, quartered
1 cup water
Oil (to brown meat and onions)

Lightly brown meat and onions in oil. Pour off excess fat. Combine egg, 1 teaspoon of the salt, bread crumbs, Worcestershire sauce, pepper and 1 cup of the tomato sauce. Add to meat. Stir thoroughly, and cook for several minutes. Add remaining ingredients. Cover and simmer for 2 hours, stirring occasionally.

Serves 4.
