1/4 pound butter or margarine
2/3 cup granulated sugar
2 eggs
1 1/3 cups mashed bananas
2 cups sifted flour
1 teaspoon baking soda
1 1/2 teaspoons salt
1/4 to 1/2 cup chopped walnuts

Preheat oven to 350 degrees F. Lightly grease an oval 1 1/2-quart casserole.

In large saucepan over low heat, melt butter; remove from heat. Stir in sugar, unbeaten eggs, mashed bananas, then flour, sifted with salt and baking soda, until just blended; stir in nuts. Bake in prepared casserole for 60 minutes or until a wooden pick comes out clean from center. Cool bread 10 minutes in casserole, then remove from casserole and finish cooling on wire rack.

Wrap tightly in foil until serving time.
